Cleveland’s Ward 10 Councilman Anthony Hairston was re-elected to City Council in November 2021. He previously had served as a member of the Cuyahoga County Council from 2014 to the end of 2017. As chair of the county’s Community Development Committee, Councilman Hairston worked to secure millions of dollars to demolish vacant and abandoned property. He also secured funding for infrastructure projects, specifically the resurfacing of Eddy Road and East. 152nd Street. He also worked to establish a $1 million Community Development Supplemental Grant that local communities in the county can apply for and are awarded $50,000. He is a long-time advocate of social service programs and a champion of military veterans and worked to ensure veterans can receive free identification cards through the county’s Veterans Services Commission. Councilman Hairston was appointed to the Cuyahoga County Council in February 2014. He then successfully ran for re-election in 2016. Councilman Hairston, who has been interested in politics since a young age, had earlier run for Cleveland City Council in 2009, at age 23. He successfully managed both a judicial and a county council campaign. Councilman Hairston, a life-long resident of the Collinwood community, is active in the Democratic Party and the Cleveland branch of the NAACP. He represented Ohio as a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Councilman Hairston is a graduate of Collinwood High School and received a business degree from Cleveland State University. As a college student, he received local and national awards recognizing his educational growth and achievements. He was first elected to council in November 2017.
