Laisy & East 93rd
The Laisy and East 93rd property is part of the Kinsman-Union Community. The Kinsman neighborhood itself has deep roots. It grew rapidly in the late 1800s with the arrival of railroads from Cleveland to Pittsburgh and the extension of streetcar lines, which spurred factories, worker housing, and retail.
Today, the community faces ongoing challenges: deteriorating housing, illegal dumping on vacant lots, outdated roadways, and the presence of large industrial brownfields like this site. The East 93rd & Laisy Avenue property is one of the largest vacant sites in the Kinsman-Union community. Once home to an RTA bus garage, the 11-acre parcel is now an unused resource.
Because of its size and central location, the East 93rd & Laisy property has been identified as a priority redevelopment opportunity in multiple community plans. Earlier proposals envisioned a mixed-use project with housing, a community center, and retail, though attracting retailers to the site has proven difficult and would likely compete with the planned Kingsbury Crossings Shopping Center nearby.
More recent concepts include:
- A major housing development, ranging from single-family to multi-family units.
- A community recreation campus with walking trails, sports courts, and green space, potentially paired with senior housing.
- Streetscape improvements to make East 93rd more walkable and connected to nearby parks and public spaces.
With the right vision, the site has the potential to become a transformative anchor for the Kinsman-Union neighborhood.
